Living the Dream: Chamonix Edition

Our fourth and also the last residential trip took us to Chamonix, France for one week. We flew from Birmingham to Geneve and had a drop off to Chamonix. Upon our arrival we were accommodated in a local hostel. Me and Costin shared a room with another two guys. One from England and the other from New Zealand. On our first evening we went to one of the pizza restaurants and celebrated our arrival.

Second day started with an early wake up and a big surprise at the breakfast table. Apparantly french people seem to use a bowl instead of a cup for drinking tea and coffee, which was obviously very bizarre for us. After some bread and jam we went out to do some snow shoeing. Pete… I think he's name was Pete… anyways he took us to forest to have a quick practice on those things. After a while he asked us to take 'em off and try to walk on the snow. This really showed us how useful piece of equipment snowshoes can be in a snowy environment.

Once we were all happy with the shoes we started to gain some height and went on a small slope. As soon as we stopped to have a view over the valley one french lady started to yell at us. Apparantly they were having a film shooting and we were on their way, so we had to continue our journey. We managed to climb a bit higher when we spotted atleast three deers. It was really surprising how close they let us come. We were probably just 10 meters away from them, before they decided to leave.

Although it promised to be cloudy and occasional rains, we were lucky to have clear sky and sun. We had our lunch somewhere on the hill and the view was just amazing. It felt like in a fairytale where everything is so beautiful and perfect. Thats when I felt again that I would love to live near the mountains in the future.
