Canoing in Ironbridge Gorge

On 19th April we had a river trip planned to Ironbridge Gorge. As I missed one of the previous trips and I really need to get atleast 4 or 5 trips in total, I had to go on this one. I know it sounds like I didn't want to go, but it's totally the opposite - I couldn't wait to go!

It was me, Tim, Greg, Hannah and Vicky this time + Martin and Ben. We got there between 10am and 11am and it was cloudy/rainy - just horrible. Fortunately we were lucky to get some sunshine once we got on water. The first part of day was just practicing a few basic things, for example how to make quick turns in the current. After that we just kept going and learned a few more things along the way, like how to move more effectively and turns.

At some point we noticed some massive nuclear plant towers, which actually looked really nice and amazing.

Half way down we stopped on the shore and had picnic. After which we paddled a bit and saw world's first iron bridge.

Slightly after the bridge we stopped because there was quite a big and really fast rapid ahead.

Martin and Ben told us that once we go in, we need to keep paddling, so the canoe stays stable and also that we should stay in the middle of the river to be safe from rocks. It's hard to describe the adrenaline that we got out of it, but it was an amazing feeling to go through the waves on a high speed. We decided to carry out canoe at least another 3 times back to experience that awesomeness.

Once everyone had enough tries we started to learn how to cross the rapids against the flow. Our first two attempts were successful, but on the last one Tim lost balance, canoes' side turned against the waves and voila we were in the river having a fast but cold ride down the current. Nevertheless it was a great experience. Now there are two more river trips planned, one of them being an overnight, which is going to be awesome!
